What I know for sure...
Last week I turned 25. In the quarter of a century that I've been alive, here's [ what I know for sure ]...
Being happy is a choice.
Good, positive thoughts will shift your life into something amazing!
My love languages are 'words of affirmation' and 'quality time' (I'm bilingual).
But learn to speak all the love languages.
I have a great, unique heritage.
The best place to live is in the 'present moment'.
Once you grow up your siblings really are your true, best friends.
I hate 'secrets'. So much shame grows from them and they only take you backwards -not forward.
Stay positive. Always.
The best way to learn is through experience.
Don't be afraid to be a "beginner".
Honestly is the best policy and will always get you further.
Everyone just wants to feel validated.
What others think of you is none of your business.
When you have an attitude of gratitude, you will always have enough.
The less I feel I need, the happier I am.
Building strong, lasting, true relationships with others makes me feel fulfilled.
Life is so much easier when you become your own best friend.
Forgive and FORGET.
Laugh a lot.
Some things are better said than not said.
Sometimes that person we need to forgive is ourself.
Don't look back. Keep moving forward.
Family is always worth the sacrifice.
My biggest regrets have been when I failed to act quickly.
Marrying my husband was the hardest yet BEST decision I ever made.
You are always the master of your emotions.
Don't have a wishbone where your back bone ought to be.
Fear and faith cannot coexist.
Forgiveness will set you free.
There are no such thing as a coincident.
You cannot compare your weakness to someone else's strength.
Keep things simple.
The dirty house is not going anywhere -take the time to have fun with the kids. They grow up too fast!
Don't get offended so easily. You give away your power by doing so.
The church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is true.
Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer.
Looking back, Heavenly Father has always been there for me and pulled me through every struggle, even when I lacked faith-He will never forsake me.
I'm likening this feel of "25". I feel wiser. I'm happy. I feel comfortable in my own skin. I feel blessed for the experiences I have had thus far. I feel like I've come a long way. I am optimistic about my future. There is so much good ahead of me.
The best is yet to come so COME WHAT MAY AND LOVE IT.

beauty sketch
i came across this video today...
...and it reminded me of an experience i just had. last saturday my little sister was going through the temple for the first time. beforehand, as i was getting ready to go to the temple i scrambled around trying to find something to wear. my clothes didn't fit right (due to the stubborn baby weight i gained), my face felt super round and chubby, and my hair felt dried out and nappy. i was having a [ moment ]. i felt ...discouraged... and somewhat frustrated. it's not that i don't feel i'm beautiful (and i mean that in the most self-loving-non-conceited way)...i just don't feel like i have the same confidence as i did pre-pregnancy. anyways, so i pulled my hair back into a quick side-bun and threw on a long skirt with a loose sweater and was out the door. once i got to the temple, i walked past a group of temple workers as i walked through the women's locker room to change. before i walked into the endownment session one of the workers, who seemed to be around the same age as me, approached me and said, "i saw you when you walked in and i just wanted to tell you that you are beautiful and stunning!" i was kind of taken aback and didn't know what to say for a second and then replied with an awkward, "thank you." honestly, her kind compliment was a bit of an ego boost. i thought to myself, "what was i stressing about earlier? i'm not sure what she saw but maybe i'm not looking as awful today as i thought i was." after that i told myself i wouldn't be so hard on myself.
anyways, i loved this video.
what we see ourselves as isn't always what others sees.
you're more [ beautiful ] than you think.
you're more [ beautiful ] than you think.

You know your best friends when...
...you have a petty argument and then are silent while sitting next to one another but then want the other person to hurry and say "sorry" first so you can tell them something crazy that happened the day before.
(This may or may not have happened between my husband and I)

{ most difficult thing for me to forgive }
back in june i started { 30 things }, a month of answering a question about yourself each day. i started this for my kids sake in hopes that they'd read it one day. anyways due to morning sickness and the craziness of life i never finished it...but i'm going to at least try and finish now before baby #2 arrives. i believe i left off on day 18...
"What has been the most difficult thing you have had to forgive?
i was actually just going to leave this question out because the answer is so personal. but i changed my mind because there is nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed about. but i will just keep my answer simple and to the point.
forgiving my abuser from my childhood has been the most difficult thing for me to forgive. almost my entire life was spend carrying this heavy burden of pain, shame, and helplessness. i couldn't go back into the past and change things, and that fact drove me crazy. i finally realized that i wasn't that helpless little girl. what happened happened. but now it was my decision of whether or not i wanted to continue carrying this burden and be miserable the rest of my life....or let it go and be happy. the decision was mine and no one else's. it literally took me years just to contemplate whether or not i was, or even could, forgive this person and what they did to me. i could no longer live the way i was anymore. it got to the point where it was effecting my son, and by then i knew things within me had to change.
i went to the temple one day and before i left i said a silent, heartfelt prayer telling Heavenly Father that i truly forgave him, my abuser (i have no contact whatsoever with this person so forgiving him face to face wasn't an option). as i closed my prayer i immediately felt [ lighter ] and [ peaceful ]. i vividly remember walking through the temple grounds to my car feeling so happy and having this sense of inner [ strength ] that i had never experienced before. in my mind the words, "HE NO LONGER OWNS ME. I AM FREE." left a deep impression upon me. my life has changed for the [ best ] since that day.
there is always HOPE.
you can HEAL.
the atonement is REAL.

make time.
...and even if they can't 'find' time for you, they'll [ make ] time. life is much better when it's filled with lots of "i'm glad i did" rather than "i wish i had".
point. blank.

Morning Epiphany
As of lately my favorite part of the day has been first thing early in the morning when i get up to go for my walk. (it use to be "jog" but this baby seems to be weighing me down and throwing my center of gravity off these days so i had to downgrade to a walk.) i usually sneak out the door before my boys wake up. it's refreshing to get away for an hour or two before the long list of to-dos have to be started and without any screamer or crier nagging at my side.
i can just quietly think to myself.
i've found that these walks are usually the times when i have my [ epiphanies ]. my most recent one was yesterday morning. the night before last i slept through an entire night of just nightmares. i woke up yesterday morning feeling bothered and negative. a walk (or run) is usually the simple cure that get's me over whatever it is that's weighing me down but for some reason, i just couldn't shake those negative feelings yesterday morning -even while on my walk.
i'm a big believer in dreams and that some have meaning behind them but i also believe that dreams, or nightmares, can be a subconscious reflection of what's going on with you consciously through out your day. obviously, there had been issues bothering this past sunday (actually it was pretty much the entire last week)...and now i was having nightmares about it. this isn't the first time this has happened to me. having "nightmares" about something is usually [ my sign ] that the issue (whatever it may be) is taking too much energy physically, mentally, and emotionally, from me. (do i sound like a whack job yet?)
i couldn't allow myself to be drained and so easily defeated over things that had been said and done. i could [ feel sorry for myself ] for only 10 minutes...then i HAD to either do something about the situation to change it or change the way i thought about it.
i can't always change things of the past but i can use that negativity to mold and motivated me into something [ better ] than i was yesterday.

Gratitude turns what we have into enough.
today has just been [ one of those days ].
i started off the morning discovering a huge bill that i don't want to pay.
then worrying about how we're going to pay for this and that, and still make school happen this fall.
wishing we had another car so i could be at my mom's house already.
i have a long lists of things to get done before the end of the day.
bags to pack.
an energetic 2 year old that wants his mama's attention every second and wants to know the name of every single thing in our home.
i got 3 hours of sleep last night.
my thighs feels gi-NORMOUS, my arms are jiggly, and i'm just feeling BIG. period.
and my pregnancy hormones are making me feel irritated at every. single. little. thing.
i knew i was totally over reacting and making molehills into mountains!
i was allowing myself to be miserable...over nothing! i needed to change ASAP so i took a deep breath and quickly wrote down a page of everything i'm grateful for while my son took his nap beside me.
this act was simple, yet so humbling. this reminder put me in check. i really do have NOTHING to complain over. i'm blessed immensely! i already posses [ what matters most ]. i'm going to smile and be grateful for all that i have...and enjoy these next few days with those i love most -at the river. peace out fellow bloggers. i'm gonna go get my tan on!

{ Staying close }
every night before my son goes to bed it became our little [ tradition ] that we lay there together and talk about everything that happened that day or the things we did. it's fun to hear him ramble in his own little language. sometimes i can understand him....but most of the time i can't. but the most important thing is that we [ talk ]. i figured if i want to [ stay close ] with him in the future when he's grown and thinks he knows it all, we're never going to talk about the BIG stuff, if we don't ever even talk about the small stuff.

{ to me, it all makes perfect sense }
painted this the other day to hang on our bedroom wall. it's the lyrics to "God Blessed the Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts. i would have used the lyrics from our first dance at our wedding (Dontchange by Musiq Soulchild) but honestly, our reception is a blur to me and doesn't bring back the best memories.
this song suits us better anyways.
i believe everyone has a little or some kind of brokenness (from their childhood and/or past) and you know you've found the 'right one' when that brokenness finally starts to heal. being with that 'right person' is healing. or maybe it's not a brokenness but a void that they help you fill or a weakness of yours that they compensate for. of course, compensate for you in a good way which eventually helps turn your weakness into a strength.
looking back i see the subsequent of events (or signs) that led me to him. and despite things that happened in my life, good or bad, i was still led to that 'right person'. now looking at the big picture through spiritual eyes, i see why i needed him and why he needed me.
or maybe i'm just talking nonesense and making no sense at all.
but to me -it all makes perfect sense.

{ quiet confidence }
It's usually...
...the couples who have to put it out there that they have the perfect relationship...actually have the most unhealthy one.
...those who scream and shout how much they hate drama...who are the instigators and biggest drama queens.
...those who claim to be the "realest"...are as fake as plastic.
...those who have to show how much they give...are the most selfish.
...those who give every person they meet their 'two cents' because they know it all...don't know jack squat.
Remember...
Talking with quiet confidence will always beat screaming with obvious insecurity.

{ a good cry }
You know that feeling where you're trying to hold it all in, keep it together, and pretend like everything is fine...and you're putting on a good act -until you're holding it in for so long that when someone finally asks you "are you ok?" ...your guard falls and you break down...
That was me yesterday. lawls.
....eh, ok I know its not funny but it makes the situation feel lighter if I laugh about it. I realized I hold to much in and don't allow others to help or 'carry my burden'. Surprisingly, I actually felt lighter after letting myself have a good cry. I think sometimes all you need is a good cry, to help release all the pressure that's trapped inside you. Right now I'm just going through my own personal trial. Yes, I have my husband/best friend to talk with about it. And I do. But sometimes there's just not much he can say or do because I realized he carries this same trial but feels and experiences it differently than I do. So I suffer in silence. This is my cross to bear. But of coarse, at the same time I still feel hope. There's always hope. I am just currently in the midst of the refiner's fire. I will experience this, learn from it, and grow because of it. I know I am not forgotten. I know Heavenly Father loves me because he has blessed me with pockets of sunlight along the way to give me this hope and get me through.
But sometimes....it just feels good to let go and have a good cry.

{ 100/100 }
So the other day I was driving by myself and heated after having a "disagreement" with my husband. [Insert gasp*] ...because we are the perfect couple who live in pure marital bliss on a daily basis. HA! Anyways, so as I started replaying the situation over and over in my head...I became angry-er. Finally, I stopped pressing replay in my mind, convinced myself that it wasn't worth it to kill him, and took a nice, long deeeeeeeeep breath.
Woooooooossssaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh....
I decided to listen to the "good" angel on my shoulder and thought to myself, "No matter how much this guy gets under my skin or how much we disagree on an issue or how much I just want to punch his face and yell 'WHAT ON EARTH WERE YOU THINKING?!' ...I will still always stand by his side, be his ride-or-die, and love him unconditionally.
Then last Sunday I came across this quote in Sunday school by Bruce C. Hafen of the Seventy.
"When troubles come, the parties to a contractual marriage seek happiness by walking away. They marry to obtain benefits and will stay only as long as they're receiving what they bargained for. But when troubles come to a covenant marriage, the husband and wife work them through....Contract companions each give 50 percent; covenant companions each give 100 percent. Marriage is by nature a covenant, not just a private contract one may cancel at will."
Good day or bad day, the everlasting covenant we made with the Lord is what drives our power, motivation, and compassion to each give 100% to one another.

{ These boots are made for...Riding! }
The only pair of shoes I love more than my GUESS stilettos are these...
...my cowgirl boots!
Lately, with all my school work, our crazy schedules, and being a full-time wifey and momma I've become so burnt out! So today I skipped class and went horseback riding instead. Just what I needed. Anyone who really knows me knows how much I LOVE horses. Good thing I married someone who loves horses just as much as me..er...well..kinda...ok, not really. Just to clear the air -YES, my husband is Tongan so YES, my husband LOVES (to eat) hoosi. YES, I am part Tongan so YES, I have tried hoosi too. Honestly, it's good -but I just can't get past the fact of what I'm eating so no thank you!
Anyways, so back to what I was saying....As far back as I can remember I've been riding horses. My grandparents, who live in Utah, own and bred horses so every time I'd go visit them I'd ride -either in their arena or up the canyon. I can remember waking up at the crack of dawn every morning (even if it was the middle of winter and below 0 degrees-Antarctica-weather) just so I could help my grandpa feed and water the horses. I have pictures of me when I was two or three years old with my frizzy blond hair blowing in the wind while riding a pony by myself with one hand holding the reins and the other holding my whip. I was so small my feet couldn't even reach the stirrups so I would squeeze me legs as tight as I could around the belly just to stay on. My grandpa said I had no fear. Before climbing on the pony I'd tell him "Gimme mah whip so I can whip him!" Later on I graduated from ponies to riding the 'big horsies' to the top of mountains. Being in Utah with my grandparents is where my passion for horses began and grew...
When I was younger I grew up with the mindset that there were only horses in Utah (because that's the only place I saw or rode them), then once I got older my mindset changed to "It's too expensive to own a horse in California" or "I don't have time to go riding" or "I don't know where I'll ride"....so I kind of just put my passion on the back-burner, especially after I got married and had a kid. On the occasional times I went back to Utah, I'd usually catch a ride with my grandpa....but riding only a couple times a year wasn't enough.
A couple months ago I finally threw away that mindset and those excuses -and I started riding again....aaaand I'm hooked. I started going every Friday. Those couple of hours every Friday turned into {me-time} and through out the week when things would get hectic or I'd become overly exhausted I would remind myself of the couple of hours I get to myself on Friday and my excitement and anticipation would get me through the week. This {me-time} turned into something that I didn't know I needed so much! When I go and ride I just forget about everything...like my endless list of things I need to get done, the taxes we owe (lol), and whatever else was bothering me before I got there.
I realized I had, in a way, lost my sense of self and of the person I once was before I became a Mrs. and mommy. And I mean that in the 'best intentions' kinda way. Anyone who is a wife and mother knows how much you are NEEDED on a constant basis and how everyone walks around with their heads chopped off if you're not around. (at least mine do) But I just discovered this secret...
The secret to happy wives and mothers are those who know where "we" ends and "me" begins.
Some may think that's selfish...well, it's not! How can you take care of others if you don't take care of yourself first? My husband LOVES when I go riding every week because I come home feeling refreshed, happy, and most importantly -in a good mood! It's just like the saying "Happy wife, happy life" or "If momma ain't happy, ain't no one happy". Taking some {me-time} and doing something I'm passionate about keeps me fueled emotionally and mentally and it makes me LOVE being a full-time wifey and momma that much more. (c'mon...any woman who says she's ALWAYS chipper and full of energy waking up through out all hours of the night, cooking every meal, cleaning toilets and other nasty things, etc., etc... is lying!) I'm grateful for my husband in supporting me in this and understanding that I need my {me-time}. It makes me fall in love with him all over again when he takes on babysitting duty and tells me "you deserve it babe".
For now I'm ok riding other people's horses but once we're a little more established and we can afford it I'm going to own my own. I promised myself I'm going to always ride...because that's 'my thing'...that's my passion...that's me.
Riding with Grampa.
On one of my favorite spots on our ride -This always reminds me of the Sacred Grove.
The view.
Please, don't mind the bad angle of my thunder thighs and that I look like a hot mess in this one..it was early in the morning -I still love this pic.

{ What? }
Laugh of the week...
....And when a man says "what?", it's not because he didn't hear you. He's trying to buy time to think of an excuse to say next.
True story.

{ my own season }
"To every thing there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven." Ecclesiastes 3:1
By now I thought I would have already been done with school and been somewhat on my way to my career. But school was put on pause, or should I say in slow motion, and my current career is changing poopy diapers and folding mountains of laundry...not quite what I had planned but still -where I'm at now is better than anything I imagined (and I AM happy).
I've realized that just because something is the right choice, doesn't mean it's necessarily the right season for that choice. There's a time to every purpose...and sometimes your purpose for the time being is different than what you may have planned or hoped for.
I've accepted that what I'm doing and where I'm at now is in accordance to my season. And through faith, hope, and hard work my other seasons (finishing school, buying our first house, have my own hustle on the side, owning my own horse(s)...) will come to pass in due time.

{ how to work the system }
" D I S M I S S E D! "
...did I just get out of paying a $400 ticket?
HELL YA I DID! Take that you sorry, egocentric police officer!
This morning I went to my court appearance and got out of yet another traffic ticket, which would have been a whomping $400 fine! If you know my husband or I, you know how many FA-rikkin' traffic tickets we get! Honestly, it's ridiculous!!!! Once we got three in one week! ...but I swear we're not bad drivers! The cops here are just delusional and must see a huge sign on the back of our car that says "PULL ME OVER, PLEASE". And we just have a higher percentage of getting pulled over than the average driver because we're forever driving around all of Southern California on a regular basis.
So this ticket was the fourth one we've gotten out of...I think...honestly, we've both lost count now. (ya -there's been that many) We've pretty much been to at least one courthouse in each county (the farthest in Ventura County) So we could tell you how each courthouses' system works (because they're all different)
Now if you want to be like every other American who gets a traffic ticket you can:
A) get got and just pay the fine in full amount
B) fail to appear in court/pay the bail amount and get your license suspended/have a warrant out for your arrest
or
C) work the system
Now this is how you work the system (mainly for speeding tickets):
-once you get your ticket in the mail read the paper or go online and know how that courthouse's system works
-you want to postpone your court appearance as long as you possibly can-that way the officer hopefully forgets about your case or looses his paper work for your ticket (depending on the courthouse. you can extend the date to pay the bail amount and then right before it's actually due -schedule to make a court appearance -but again, check with the courthouse first because they're all different)
-when you go to the first court appearance -always plead not guilty (unless it's for running a red light in an intersection with a camera -you'll NEVER win on those, or something like you didn't have your license or insurance) If you were driving while talking/texting on your cell phone, you have a fix-it-ticket, or other -those offenses are pretty black and white so it will be hard to win NOT GUILT, so plead GUILTY (if the judge is nice enough they'll lower the amount you have to pay)
-when you plead NOT GUILTY you'll be scheduled another court appearance on a different day because they have to subpoena the officer who issued your ticket
-your next court appearance (usually a couple months later-again, if you can postpone this for as long as you can) is a gamble! -if your officer doesn't show up to court your case is automatically dismissed (you don't have to pay the fine or your refunded it in 4-6 weeks and you get no point on your driving record) If he does show up -that's where you have to get kind of creative with your plea.(if you have a 'lawyer friend' this is where you should get their advise -not mine! lol)
-so far we've never had to state a plea because we postponed our trial months, almost a year later, that the officer never showed up -so a "no show" (of your officer) is what your hoping for.
-worst case scenario -if you plead NOT GUILTY and are found GUILTY, you will not be able to attend traffic school (which will give you a point on your driving record) and you will have to pay the original amount of your traffic violation.
Oh ya, and when you go to court, dress decently. Don't wear a hat, sunglasses, a white-T, basketball shorts, and Jordan slippers (like my husband -he learned the hard way lol)
...but I guess the best advice in how to avoid going through all the above -follow the law or don't get caught.
**disclaimer: if your dumb enough to think I'm some type of lawyer -I'm not! So don't take this info too seriously if it doesn't work for you. This is just what has worked out for us.

{ let go }
I've realized that sometimes it's easier to just let go of things instead of carrying the heavy burden of them. You will never progress forward if you're always looking back at the things you cannot change.
I use to believe that by 'letting go' of anger, bitterness, or fear when someone has wronged me, I'd be allowing the other person to win (or letting them think what they did was OK) -but it reality, I'm just letting them carry the burden of their own mistakes and giving myself the power to be happy.
So, breathing deep and letting go...

{ too much }
This morning was hectic.
wake up early.
prepare my lesson (that I was too tired to do the night before, yet days before).
get ready.
feed baby.
make fruit salad for our ward's linger longer.
make my husband some lunch so he has something to eat when he gets off work.
get baby ready.
...all before I leave to church.
After making two trips up and down the stairs of our apartment just to get everything, including my son, into the car I thought to myself, "It would be so much easier if I just skipped sacrament and Sunday school and just made it to Young Women...I mean, I have an excuse: no husband (equals less helping hands) and a crazy kid that cannot be contained for long periods of time." I brushed off the thought before it turned into an action, put my son in his car seat, and we left for church. (surprisingly not running too late but already drained and my day had just begun)
As I was walking through the parking lot towards our building I had my 30+ lbs son in one arm, a humongous glass bowl of fruit salad in the other arm, and the heavy as diaper bag on my shoulder all while trying not to fall on my face and drop the bowl of fruit while my heels were getting stuck in every flippin' hole in the asphalt. But falling on my face or dropping the fruit salad wasn't my biggest problem, how was I going to open the door to get inside? With out even putting anything down I pulled some super-woman moves and got through the doors successfully. phew! ...On to the next challenge-sacrament meeting.
Before walking into Sacrament I tried not to be bitter at the fact that my husband had to miss church again because of his work schedule. He's my extra set of hands. I was already exhausted and I felt too much was being asked of me.(yes, I was being a little over-dramatic) I walked into the overflow (my son is too crazy to even try and sit in the pews) I felt like a hot mess...I had beads of sweat dripping down my face and my hair looked like a rat's nest. In less than 5 minutes of sitting down my son was already running through the chairs and screaming-straight to the foyer we go.
After chasing my son in my heels (why on earth did I wear heels today?!) I sat down on the couch to catch my breathe and just pretended that I didn't see him climbing on the table (I was beyond exhausted at this point) Thankfully he got off the table and ran over to me to sit on my lap. I grabbed a couple pass-along card on the table near me so I could show baby the pics on the front to distract him. One of the pictures on the cards was of Jesus. As I pointed to his face and asked baby, "Who is this?," a deep impression came to my mind.
"No one can stand before the Savior and suggest too much was asked."
I was humbled indeed.
Obviously my petty 'problems' of the day were nothing compared to the more serious trials I have endured (or have yet to endure)-and even those are not too much compared to what our Savior chose to endure for each and everyone of us. I know I am not given anything I cannot overcome and have definintly never been asked too much of me. I'm eternally grateful for my Savior and the selfless act he did when he died and atoned for me.
[Side note: baby stayed in nursery the whole time which equals 2 whole hours of rest for me (nursery teachers are angels)
-my lesson was awesome and my class was full
-linger longer was on point and my fruit salad was gone before I could even get any, which I guess is a good thing because that means my first trial run of it was a success]

I LOVED this picture of the Savior.
